Covetousness

"Thou shalt not covet."

Such a vice
God named it twice.
Envy, lust and avarice
Joined in I-must-have-it-ness.

Commandments commandeered by commodities,
Plastic preferred to stone-etched oddities.

The selling so compelling
That greed becomes need,
Lure becomes cure,
Desire becomes require.

Conspicusumers spend upon it,
Institutions lend upon it,
Economies depend upon it,
Civilizations end upon it.

The golden calf is idolized,
The soul of man is Midasized.

In God we trust?
Those shoes are a must.
